View Full Version : Montauk Breaker

I've been working on a few pieces and finally finished,(I think), this one. I so love the water, having been raised around it! Montauk Point is one of my favorite spots. It's humbling to be at the very end looking out onto the Atlantic. I love the flat sometimes jagged rocks that cascade down to the shore and then swallowed up into the mighty surf! Hopefully I have conveyed that in this piece. It's an 11"x14" Pastel on Stratmore Toned Gray paper. Hope you like it!
C&C's Always Welcomed!

Beautiful ... Love the colors & peaceful mood..
my only thought is the triangle orange rock in foreground.. & the darker rock above and to the right.. both seem to grab my eye - one too bright & one too dark...the dark rock seems like it didn't get grounded/finished.

I really like the splash of light on the breaking part of the wave, and the strip of water, sand and rock in front of the wave.

I keep going back to this, and this is just a thought. What if you cropped off the top 1/4 to 1/3 of the painting? That will really make the breaking part of the wave appear more prominent in you composition.

The way you colored the light part of the wave gives it a real shimmering sense of motion! It really holds my attention. I agree with Karen about a crop, Marlene, if you want to consider it. Beautiful piece!

As I viewed ye composition, I could hear the surf pounding the shoreline in me mind. NICE work.👌

Very sensitive use of colour... as Donna says ..."it shimmers"!

Thank you all so much! Believe it or not I was considering a crop and then I got word that someone wants to purchase it, so I guess it stays as is. The reason I was thinking of not cropping it was that I loved how the background gave you that misty feeling by the shore when it seems the sea goes on forever. But fate has made that decision for me. Thank you so much all of you for your excellent advice!!!!!! It is most appreciated!

Repaint it, with the crop, and then enter it in a competition. I see ribbons in your future.

I love the colors you have discovered in the wave and then communicated so very well. A beautiful painting. It is wonderful to look at. Thank you for sharing.

It is a beautiful artistic interpretation of a wave breakig close to a beach . It is dramatic and attractive, the colours give it the sound as it breaks.
