Thanks for hosting Kor, I had a big clean out of my studio and rediscovered all these beautiful soft pastels that I have not touched for years. I decided I would give them a go today to see if there is any use in keeping them and have decided they are not for me. I dont like the dust and surprisingly I dont have the control that I have with acrylics and gouache.
This is 12 x 18 cream coloured pastel paper and took about 90 minutes.

All C and C welcome

Oh, this is so very, very beautiful, even ethereal. It's hard to imagine you giving up art supplies, especially when you can produce beauty like this from them, but I understand about the dust. This is an evocative portrait, a genuine treasure...

A superb composition, Christine, so very well done. Agree about the dust, too, is why I no longer use them.

This is a beauty. I occasionally get out my pastels for a play, love the energy in the scribbling but not the mess either. I love colourfix paper, seems to work much better for me than the softer Canson.

This is wonderful Christine - (I know they are dusty, but Pan Pastels are not - very little and it is a bit like carving a picture, cause there are various tools with sponges rather than q-tips and fingers) - love the capture of Nonny Kor in the mirror!

Hey Christine:wave: like this a lot:clap: great composition with the mirror and bottles:thumbsup:
I don't mind the dust, cheap pastels and bits and pieces for filling in,big b/g areas, kept in a Tupperware box filled with rice, keeps them reasonably clean,Derwent pastel pencils for sketching or detailed drawing, then my caran d'ache pastels and the super soft unison for highlights an finish.

Nice portrait Christine! I like to draw and paint with soft pastels, but I hate dust, and it is a real problem for me as for you... But the result is wonderful. Good idea with the rice Guillaume.
