This is an 8" x 10" on Pastelmat. Various pastel pencils and softies
The subject is the beautiful Amanita Mascaria mushroom. They bloom here after heavy rains. They are poisonous, deadly if you eat enough. Hence the title.
Would this painting be considered a still life???? Not really a landscape unless it is a very small one :)

Wow, I thought it was a picture in the beginning! The details of the leaves, and the reflections and texture of the head of the mushroom are amazing, thanks for sharing this work!

Great work especially in the surrounding foliage! The pattern of greens makes a nice foil for the rich red of the mushroom. My thoughts: the light values in the mushroom, particularly of the stalk, could be developed with more form. (It may also just be your image).

Landscape or still life, I love the composition, it's like a tapestry of texture.
Particularly nice is the shine on your surfaces!

Your attention to the intricate details of this scene is amazing! The foliage in the background is beautiful but that mushroom steals the show with its shape and colors. It's kind of a portrait of the mushroom and a still life and a landscape ...

Thank you all!
Yes Ken I think it is the image. You can see more value definition in the whites than shows here. :)
Donna, thanks for the answer to my question, made me chuckle!

Kate, thank you to you also! I am glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you also stapeliad! I was surprised to see that the light reflecting on that orange was so pink! Glad it works!

It is fine. You have an eye for detals. What is appreciable is that every detail you have painted with great care and attention with out falling into the sense of believeing small details need not be exact. It is a lesson to be applied in everyday living.
