Hi,

I have various pastel sets, and one set that is particularly tricky for me to use is an 18-set of Richeson semi-hard pastel sticks.

I am generally able to get good results with other hard pastel sets such as Polychromos, Cretacolor and Conte, but the Richeson set seems simply to refuse to stick to any surface that I use.

I do not want to throw them away, and I am seriously considering taking them to travel with me(so that I do not feel too bad if I lose them), so I wondered whether anybody had an idea on which surface to use them with/how to make them more workable.

Thanks!

Have you tried the more coarse sanded papers? 320, 280 or 240?

I think you might be able to get coal to stick to 240 grit.
