This old girl is quite a character, very reserved in her demeanor but yet she can be really goofy at times! She belongs to my groomer. The challenge with this breed is getting the soft and coarse combo of the coat layers right. I did a lot of lifting and then going back in to add shadows for individual hair clumps.
Watercolor, 11" x 14" on 300 lb Fabriano Artistico cold press

Well done Carole. A lovely dog and his fur looks great.

My problem is that every time I go to the home where the dog lives, the hair is covering his face or it has just been shaved down to 1/2 inch.

Carole, thanks so much for sharing this with our Forum. It is a wonderful portrait You have captured Opal's personality beautifully. She looks like she truly has a mind of her own. Nice colours in the hair as well. Good one.

Thanks so much for the great comments, folks!
Lucyloo123: I always INTEND to paint in that beautiful, washy watercolor way. I start out loose and washy but somehow as I work my way toward that final vision I see in my head for the piece, I lose a lot of that quality except in the backgrounds.
