Goldfinch, Acrylics, 5″ x 7″
The fourth painting in the small birds series. We used to have so many goldfinches on our feeders when we lived in Quebec.
I love their super vibrant yellow colours. My son and I used to call them “flying lemons”. With the way they sing, I always imagined that they spoke Japanese for some reason, haha.

Well done, Kathy.

Very pretty. Well done!
Our goldfinches are different to yours. British yellow hammers are more like this. It's interesting to see the diversity. Look forward to more of your birds.

Such a strikng bird! I had never seen this type of goldfinch before. As Penny says ours are very different, not quite so gold. Lovely work on the plumage.

Your birds are awesome! Keep 'em coming. Not ever seen any of these in Texas. They are lovely.

Thank you Christel :)
Penny and Kay M, yes, they are different! I keep forgetting that we have birds with the same name here and in Europe. Like the robins are very different also here.
Thank you Kay, I don't remember seeing them when I lived in Texas either. We saw lots of them in Quebec though. Haven't seen one here in Victoria yet.

Very pretty bird and lovely painting!
I was interested to see if we have Goldfinches in New Zealand, so Googled them. We have no Native NZ Goldfinches, but the European Finch is here and apparently has a yellow stripe on its wing. Not nearly as pretty as your yellow one! They were introduced from England to New Zealand about 1862.
Here's the link to the breed we have in New Zealand http://nzbirdsonline.org.nz/species/european-goldfinch
Aren't birds fascinating!

Thank you jonc50!
Vivien, thank you as well! European finches are beautiful, I love the variety of colours in their plumage. I wish we could see them here :) Yes, birds are so fascinating!

Another lovely little bird portrait. I can see why you called them flying lemons. We have a different gold finch here in the U.K. which is beautiful but not as gold as yours.
