i guess this is challenge...hard to find my reference

been wanting to try a ATC collage piece for a while so one more off my bucket list. i suppose that this took about 2 hours work plus lots of digging on how to do things.

stage 1 - did the sketch then traced the dishes as separate pieces so i could use them for a template to cut out. i had a gessoed card made from a cereal box already to go.

found a nice scanned old letter on the net (free image site) as a background and glued it in place with acrylic gel, then the dishes were glued on, and the whole thing sealed with the gel.

the rest was all acrylic paint applied like watercolor, but i had to use lots of acrylic medium with the water. it beaded up over the gel when it was applied otherwise.

this one gives you an idea of scale...

this was definitely fun to do and i will try it again! bonus points for anyone figuring out what book i got the text from :D (hint: it is a well known novel)

and of course, last but not least... last week's grand finale. took about 4 hours to cut out.

P.S. Bonnie... i was kidding abut the bulldog

Nice essays in an interesting technique. That first one is done on a very small scale, exacting work. I like the boldness of the second one it works very well.

Is it Tom Sawyer? The collage is wonderful and the printed word just demands a closer look, I also love the bold silhouette effect on the second.

Really like the daisy wheel! It's worked very well. The Dishes are cleverly done too.

What a neat technique with a wonderful result. I did not guess the novel, but I teach English lit, not American lit (my excuse). So if you had used some Chaucer, i would have nailed that extra credit. Well done to Christine! I really like the cut out. Very effective.

Mike, These are both super cool!
They each look like it would require extraordinary patience (which I have never had). Both inspiring indeed, but I really love the collage!
