It has been a long time since I have done pastel work. I decided to try new tricks. I purchased Masonite boards from the local hardware store, and covered with Gesso and then mixed with pumice gel. My first trial did not look good so I tried again doing a portrait of my granddaughter Kate, who is 11 years old.
The surface board is 10X12, covered with gesso and pumice gel on a gray tone. I used hard pastels, then pan pastel for the BG, then soft pastels and the minimal details and blending I used Pastel pencils. No blending done with fingers. I am still working with the shirt which is quite busy so I will not copy it as such.
My main goal was a painterly finish and proper values. C&C welcomed.

A beautiful painting of a beautiful subject. You are almost finished. I agree with you about the blouse, simplify a bit.

A lot of life in those skin tones. Looks to me that you were able to get the values correct. Well done Moises.

Dea, Bobbymac, Divasin: Thank you for your comments.
Yes, my main concern are values. However, I am applying, or trying to, all the tricks and tips such as contrast, use of the complementary colors, and the so called diagonal line in order to bring more attention to the portrait.
The final work is coming soon. Thank all again for the support and encouragement.

Donna, Stapeliad:
Thank you for the comments. I did the final touches to this portrait of Kate Menendez. In fact she is going to be 12 years old next month.
I did everything to enhance the final work by manipulating the values and contrasts and using the background as well with quasi complementary colors, and trying to place the cool colors in strategic places. BTW, Kate's favorite color is blue, so I use it for the shirt. Thank you to all the people who viewed this work and also Karen for her advise as well.
The original work is not as dark as the picture.
