View Full Version : More mine sweeping

The white object in the foreground is an Orapesa Float holding up the outboard end of the sweep wire, along with a 'kite' and Otter boards. The wire snags the mine anchor cable and cuts it, allowing it to float to the surface where it is destroyed by rifle fire. The two wires from the stern are a 'LL' sweep for magnetic mines. The black hulled Drifter follows the sweepers laying 'Dan Bouys' mark On my way! The 'Swept Channel' ( Dan Bouys can be seen lashed to the mast stays on the 'Northcotes'.)

I can feel the wind and sea spray let alone the noise, excellent.

I think the whole wind and sea spray effect is enhanced not only by the waves, but even the clouds are tilted back! The exhaust from the stacks is laid back hard too. I almost had to put on a proper wool sweater to view this painting, to knock the chill from me bones!
But really, a great work that gets the imagination going. Thanks!
