trying a couple of different things :)

this is the first time i tried anything in watercolors for 10 years, so wasnt expecting much. overworked in a lot of places, but i am happy with the dark values... something i have always struggled with in w/c. ended up better than i thought... but still... hmm.

5 X 7" w/c on canson 140 lb w/c paper. around 2 hours.

this was a real experiment! a paper cut of last week's rose. always wanted to try this. the drawing was quick but the cutting took a while. i couldn't find my xacto knife so i used a utility knife... that didn't help. it is a little rough around the edges.. more appropriate for stencil use i think but it was fun and i will definitely try this again!

2.5 X 3.5" paper cutting in Artagain paper. 4 hours all told. i give you a few different colors :)

Very interesting rose Mike - I'm patient, but I think the cutting out would drive me to drink and I don't drink lol - lovely attempt at the rocks with wc!

Lovely painting of Haystack Rock, Mike. I like the deep purples, and you definitely got the darks (I find watercolors very hard!). Wonderful rose, and I like how it looks against the various colors. I just watched a documentary about Matisse's paper cutouts. I gather he invented the whole idea, although he was doing something slightly different.

I think the roses are great, really nicely presented.

Nice WC! I have to check out the paper cutting, I'm not familiar with it.

Mike, great results with your watercolor after 10 years, you should think about doing more often. Love the paper cutting and not familiar with it either.

Watercolours are so unforgiving but you have managed them well, Love that rose stencil, it reminds me of Andy Warhole. Maybe its just the repeated pattern in different colours but I like it.

I really like the watercolor! The colors are great. Also, cutting the roses must have been so challenging! They look really cool.

It's very hard to get the darks in watercolor without going back in over again I agree. I really like what you've done with this -- very nice. The cutting is great!

Nice musty monochromatic of the islands. Paper cutting is so fun, and time consuming, these look amazing with the different colors

I like the play with the cutting rose, what fun! Your composition in watercolor is very nice too.
