I keep returning your painting. I know the title is Boulders, but I see a city in the far distance. There is a lovely feeling of fantasy here.

Thanks Karen.
Here's a larger photo.
I guess it still may look like a city.:)

What is it ?

This is sky, land and a pile of boulders.
My attempt was to show an area that is mostly barren
except for a pile of boulders (the warm area) in the distance.
I don't think I created enough interest in the warm area
since it is quite small and not very readable. I don't know.
I might add something else to this.

There is a lot of room to think in those vast, open spaces, Perry. It looks like it might take a very long time to walk to those boulders but that they would be worth it. I want to look up at them and know what is hidden between them. Ok, I'm walking now ...

I lightened the sky, got rid of the green in the for ground and
changed the boulders.

I think it works better.

You did very well with your walls, but boulders I am afraid are not very convinsing. You may perhaps paint close ups of real boulders-round big shapes. These look like earth dumps.

I like this version too, Perry. There is still the feeling that the boulders are huge and far away.

Thanks Donna
I'm calling this finished.

I think the later version works better too.
This is a really subtle nice muted painting that conveys a really interesting still mood. I like it very much.
