View Full Version : Waiting - Banded damselfly in Acrylic

Just finished this acrylic painting on box canvas of a banded damselfly (reference picture courtesy of Jason Morgan Online Art from his British wildlife CD). I love the structure of insect bodies and the translucency of their wings but they are really difficult to paint. Any C&C welcome.

Beautiful LIsa. Love the transparency you have achieved in the wing.

Beautiful work, Lisa. I might just darken the light patches in the background a bit more though.

Thanks very much everybody. Thanks for the advice about the background Tuscanny. I still very much in the learning process particularly with backgrounds so any help is much appreciated. :cat:

I would say you have been very successful in your rendering of those wings. So very believable. Lovely work.

The light on the wings is really eye-catching and realistic, great work! I also like the leaf it's resting on. I agree that if you darken the leaves behind/above and in the lower right corner, it would provide more contrast with the damsel and really bring it forward. :)
