I draw a dog in soft pastel. I struggled with the proportions, because of his position and I'm not sure if I got them right.
C&C are appreciated. :)

Lovely eyes and expression, Jessica. I like the fabric, too. Well done. I am sure you will get helpful critiques from people more experienced than me.

I'm not an expert on dogs and think it looks great. I agree that you also did a beautiful job on the fabric.

It looks so alive, Jessica, I'd say it is perfect.

Very nice. As stated, a reference photo would make it easier to critique. As is, it looks good. Maybe the eyes are a little large.

Beautiful work. I love the range of textures, from the lovely fabric to the soft fur and the wet nose. :)

I've tried to overlay your reference onto the painting aligning the eyes and the chin. You aren't far off at all:)

Let me say good job and I never worry about the painting looking just like the reference you have done a good job. The one thing that I notice is that the left side as we are looking at the photo is lacking 3d form on the side of his face. If you hold something up and block the left side the right side has great feel of the face going back into space. The left side is a bit flat. This is partly because of the reference photo flattening out some of that 3d form do to the lighting. I think I would try and add some shadow to the left by the ear to push that side back a little. But really that is a small thing. I really love the nose it come right off the page at you.

You have done a great job. Perhaps the upper eye lid could be a bit thinner and the cheek bones show up a little more. You have captured the sweet nature of the dog well.

@tuscanny That's interesting. How did you do that?

@slaterza Thank you. I tried to make the left side less flat.

@ACDavis Thank you for the advice. But I already sent the painting to the owner of the dog, so I can't change anything anymore.
