This one is a memory of Georgia Stait, crossing from Nanaimohttp://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/18-Mar-2017/93782-Across_the_Strait.jpg BC to the mainland. I used several photos as references. Colors in the water and the sky were vibrant although a mist always lingered on the horizon. I used an extra wide format to create a sense of space. 10.5" x 26". A mix of pastels on TerraSkin. Any and all comments and criticisms are welcome.

Such a serene beauty, Frances. The wide format draws me right in across the water. I love your moody interpretations; they are so much more than documentary scenes.

I've been there, and you captured the essence of this scene perfectly; it's beautiful. Wide, narrow formats are perfect for this type of painting.

Thanks Mike and Bob!
Donna, what a lovely comment. I do find myself drawn to the abstraction I find in form.
Peggy, thank you for the affirmation. It's good to hear from someone who is familiar with this scene.

A very interesting lesson for me. Although I like to fuss with the photograph format and a panorama is one my favorites, I would have never thought about considering this format for a pastel painting. Can't explain why and I would certainly miss a lot of fun!
Beautiful painting. I like the reflection and the light breeze running across the water.
Thank you for sharing!

Thank you Stapeliad and Vivian
Thanks Nick. To me, a wide format seems to work well for the low, long islands in this region which stretch out across the water. I would probably choose this format for any medium.
