A 5"x5" oil on panel "pocket painting" from my Zion NP series. (I've posted a step-by-step demo at http://earnestward.blogspot.com/2017/03/uinta-chipmunk-step-by-step-demo.html)

Cute little rodent and painting. I'd love to see one in real life.

Thanks Christel. If you ever visit Zion National Park in Utah you won't find them on the canyon floor. But if you hike up Walter's Wiggles to Angels Landing you'll find them in abundance - scurrying to and fro. Be forewarned though, they're cheeky little things. (Sit down for a trail-side snack and, likely as not, they will climb right up on your lap to share your picnic goodies.)

Thanks Ernest. I doubt that I'll ever get close to Utah though. Too far away! We don't have chipmunks in SA

I understand completely Christel. My wife has an aunt, uncle & cousins in SA and we've been dreaming of a SA painting adventure for years. (Your landscapes, flora & fauna are spectacular!)

Thanks Chammi. My stay in Zion NP had a lot to do with the brushwork. The canyon runs north-south and the lighting was constantly changing. (First light hit the west wall of the canyon around 7am but the Grotto House, where I stayed, didn't get direct sunlight till around noon and was back in shadow by 3pm.) But oh the colors! Highlights so bright they burned your eyes; middle tones of yellow, ochre, orange, and red; shadows of crimson and purple. And complimentary contrasts of Navajo sandstone and riverbank foliage. Sublime!

Beautiful painting!
We don't have Chipmunks in New Zealand either, and I've never seen one, but have only seen them on nature programmes on tv. They look a little like a Squirrel?
