Sorry, don't know why some are sideways on!

Watercolour with a little gouache.

I will add eye highlights with acrylic.

Should I add a very light wash of a complimentary colour? If so, what colour do you suggest?

This is very nice, Penny. Are you talking about complementary to the blue in its collar?

Thanks, Kay. I was thinking more of an earth colour to go with his colouring. Hadn't thought of the collar. On the last portrait I did, same colouring of dog, green made him appear cold, whereas a reddish colour was warmer.

Maybe an earth color such as burnt sienna with more orange in it would be a nice balance with the blue.

Thanks, fedetony.

Yes. Kay, that sounds good to me - I did think of a wash of yellow.
I might see which his owner prefers.

Thanks, Kay. He is such a little sweetie.

I've added a background, burnt sienna and orange mixture.

I agree with Kay completely. Love the expression in those soft , trusting eyes.

Thank you, Chammi. Dogs are wonderful, when you think of the dread conditions he was rescued from in Romania, he still has love to give!

Thank you, Sheila. The colour on his face has come out more yellow than it is in the original.

Lovely painting Penny!
And yes it always, amazes me too, that dogs can have such an awful time with humans but still want to love and forget! Dogs are so special!

Thank you, Viv. Yes, all they want out of life is someone to trust and be loyal to. My rescue, Cara, came from the most horrendous pound in Bresta, in Romania. Appalling conditions and treatment. She has problems from being speyed by a person who isn't properly qualified as vet.

I must have a go at her portrait. 🐾🐾
