Well, once I got the crazy bug I decided to become a tree-hugger in Kuranda, Far North Queensland....
....walk around naked, hug trees, do the vegan thingie, stay off the grog etc.
Here's one artwork from those days in the very early 1990s.
What a decade!
Oil on Belgian Linen. Quite big.
You see I was commissioned to paint a bee-eater and that's colourful.
The trouble was I instantly got bored. Big yawn.
Soooooo, I figured why not make the bird biggest and the intrigue smallest.
I'm just a little kid actually. I might be creaking old but my mind is childish...
Cheers, and why not take a moment to think about it...!

Love this one, Pieter, and the repeated leaf motifs in the child's clothing. Fabulous bird, too!

So much movement and colour and hidden things to discover. Love it.

I love the way you've played with scale here, a bee-eater that size would be quite intimidating! I love the rich colours in this and the foliage at the top, and the colour of tree roots, are a delight. :)

Much appreciated comments all etc.
Here’s another artwork from those halcyon days at Kuranda in the rainforest.
I never quite pushed this one to its limit to finish it …
Oil on canvas. Theme: We are watching you looking at us...

I liked the subtle hand at the bottom of the tree which was strangling the man's neck in the first painting!

And his hidden friend behind him with the two roots growing out of his chin!

Extremely interesting paintings! Lots to look at and wonder about, and of course beautifully rendered. Love the colors.
Ive just taken a second look to see "the hand strangling the man" - yes I can see his face but I dont think the hand is strangling him.... is it? The more I look, the more I see.

and the lurkers too. Thanks for your interest.
While in Far North Queensland doing things different was the rage.
Here’s another. The frog on the window of the train called Freshwater Connection at Cairns.
It was such a tiny thing yet it grew as it attracted focus. Weird eh? Well, 1992 was odd...
Oil on gessoed masonite 48 inches wide x 30 inches high?
