Ray Littge was a late arrival to combat in the European Theater, but once on ops the 21-year-old fighter pilot wasted no time leaving his mark. Flying P-51 Mustangs with the 8th Air Force's 352nd Fighter Group, Ray scored 10.5 confirmed aerial victories. All of Littge's kills were against German fighters, including three Fw 190s on 27 Dec 44 and an Me 262 jet on 25 Mar 45. He further claimed 13 strafing victories on Luftwaffe airfields. His awards include the Distinguished Service Cross, Silver Star, and Distinguished Flying Cross.

Littge lost his life in a flying accident in 1949 flying an F-84 Thunderjet. His son Raymond, Jr. was also a fighter pilot, flying F-4 Phantoms in Vietnam.
