Thanks for hosting, Kay, and my apologies to Chester for making him eyeless and to Midge for making a few dashes of paint suffice for her. I'm afraid I went very expressionist with this painting. I started out much less so, but after about an hour and a half when things weren't going well, I started painting it out (as is my wont) then decided just to let loose instead. I had been grading papers all day which can be tedious, so I needed to let loose...that's my excuse anyway.

Acrylics on an 8x10 gessoboard.

Colors are off in the photo. Ah, well. I'll be back later to comment on everyone's, but first, back to grading...

I like it when you let loose, strong confident strokes with a minimum of fuss and voila a bit of magic happens.
My best paintings always happen this way, never the ones I struggle and worry over.

The original photo was quite striking and this energetic sketch has a lot of graphic potential. A real working sketch.

I think this speaks to how we don't need much to recognize an object, and beyond that it's just an expression of the interplay between the essence of the object and our own. I think you hit the nail on the head with that. It's clear you painted from your gut. Beautiful!

I love to see loose paintings and I am glad you decided to go that way. Fun piece.

I really enjoyed looking at your painting. The looseness comes together nicely to suggest the subject.
