View Full Version : Ravishing Raven

Hi everyone,

Here's a sculpture I did some time ago and am finally getting a chance to share. I call it the Ravishing Raven since she is quite regally dressed. ;)

I sold this last fall at a show and lost my notes on what size it was. I think it was roughly 7 inches long by 5 inches tall by 3 inches wide. It's made with dark annealed wire of several gauges. The wings and tail are an antique set of earrings and a brooch I found at an antique store. The beak is a pointed "spike" pendant. The raven wears a gaudy, giant metal bow on her neck, dangling freely from a gold chain. Her dainty crown completes her look; it's actually a metal bracket from a bracelet, and it used to hold a faux pearl, which didn't look right so I removed it.

C&C welcome. Thank you for looking!

Amazing wire work. What did you use for her innards? She is so beautifully adorned, it is no wonder you sold her. Looking forward to seeing another piece.

Thanks so much, Vena. All of my wire sculptures are wrapped wire right to the core. It all starts with a single strand shaped more or less like the animal I'm making, and then I wind wire up until it's all filled out. I'm so happy you like this. Thanks for the nice comments. :)

Thank you, Jessica!

Wes, thanks for the nice comments. Finding the right embellishments is one of my favorite parts of the process. :)

Sonia, that's so kind of you. Thanks for the comments!

Thanks Christel. :)

Robert, thank you!

Thank you, Kay. I, too, love adding jewelry to sculptures to give character.

Fedetony, thank you. :)

Sheila, thank you! I'm so happy you like my wire work. I appreciate the comments so much.

This is so cool! I love the humour in it :) It looks like it went on a thieving rampage and is parading it's loot. The wire makes it very delicate without looking fragile. Beautiful!

Thank you so much for the wonderful comments, Kathy! You really "get" this sculpture. I smiled when I read your description of this, because whenever I create a bird sculpture, I always think they're a bit vain and mischievous. I made a pair of black bird wire sculptures once, titled the Jewel Thief and the Junk Thief, as they were decked out in pretty jeweled embellishments (for the Jewel Thief) and old, broken-up junk (Junk Thief). I enjoy making my bird sculptures a tiny bit devious. ;) Anyway, thanks very much for the nice comment!
