I'm still getting used to the pastel pencils, but absolutely loving them, these are my 2rd, 3rd and 4th dogs with them, and now Im working on a horse *which I will post when finished

Ive used a mixture of Faber castell pitt pastels, Caran D'ache, Derwent and Conte pastel pencils, getting used to the difference in the hard and softness is them. And I use Clairfontaine pastelmat

The first is Honey, my little rescue mutt, dumped on the streets as a puppy and now a pampered pooch, I though I would try a dark background but hated working on it, I struggled to make the colours pop, and in the end got fed up and felt I was over working it, and Im not happy with the neck fur either, so I will have another crack at panting her again when I have time

the second dog is my boyfriends border terrier 'Fern, I use the sand pastelmat this time which I really like

And Misty my Blue Merle Shetland sheepdog, I have drawn her in the past with coloured pencil, but I love the result with pastels so much more

Absolutely great work. I assume you are using pastel pencils, maybe oil pastels, to achieve the great fur portrayal. Am I rright. Been trying soft chalk sticks because I fear oil based would be too like crayons, but hey, if one can achieve your level of artistry with them, I might try them!

Hi Larry, yes pastel pencils, ( not oil pastels, the little round sticks) ... these are like coloured pencils, but work differently, I can now work dark to light, and I can get them really sharp for the details (as fine details is my thing)

Excellent! You are obviously talented with pastels. I love the fur. I tried pastels for a white dog and just didn't get on with them.

Thank you everyone, now I need to go through the pastels I have and decide which extra ones I need to order
