Good start, I could never control watercolour, so coloured pencils for me. I only ever did one dog in wc.
I watch this with interest

Thanks, Geoff. I like the washing, spreading of colour.
http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/02-Feb-2017/1989627-IMG_9155.JPG I had just painted in the collar, when the friend asked not to have it shown! I've washed out the colouring of the collar and plan to cover it with black paint. I find it difficult not to overdo the colour on a black dog and am inclined to leave it much as it is now - with a little darkening of some shadows. Need to add eye highlights and background colour - waiting to hear what colour is wanted for the background.

Looking great Penny. Pity you had to wash out the collar.

Thanks, Chammi. I'm not happy with solid line of his lips, on the right as you view it, so will do something aboutt that, if I can.
I would have kept the collar, too, as a foil for the brown on his face, but there's no accounting for taste!. The friend wants a fairly neutral background, so I thought I'd do a wash of pale blue and green.

Waiting to see whether Tammy's mum wants his name added.

Wow! This is excellent, and I enjoyed seeing the different stages of your WIP.

Nice work! You've captured his expression very well. :)

Thank you very much, Mrsvmk. I am pleased you enjoyed watching Tammy appear.
Thank you, SherylG. I haven't had a lot of interaction with Tammy as he doesn't live close by, so I am happy to have captured him on paper.
If the portrait was for myself, I would have a darker background, I think.

Looks good Penny. :)

Thank you, Christel and Kay. I am not really happy with the background and would add more colour, if it was for me. Tammy's owner wanted a neutral background.

Such a handsome dog, Penny!

Yes, he is, Kay. One of the lucky ones to be brought over to England from atrocious conditions in Romania. 🐾🐾

Thank you Natalie. Watercolour seemed to come naturally when I started painting. I would like to try oils but they are expensive and if I don't get on with them, it would be a shame.

Lucky you! I painted on gourds (cats, mostly, but also like dolls) and I used acrylics. Not like watercolors, but thicker like oils......so maybe that's why I have trouble with watercolors..... :(

😎I've tried acrylics and didn't get on with them, particularly. I ought to try them watered down a little. I like the transparency of watercolours and building up layers.
