View Full Version : My Weim

This is my first attempt at a dog and my wife wanted a portrait of our 8 year old weimaraner Fritz. I found the fur around the eyes and the eyes very difficult. It is somewhat impressionistic because I don't have the ability to create the level of detail that many of the amazing artists do on here. Maybe after another 10 years of painting.:) Overall, I am fairly happy with my first attempt and will continue to practice.

This is a small piece 10 x 10 oil on panel. C&C welcome.

This is good, I like the broad brush strokes and the contrasting background works well, it ties in with the eyes and collar too.

Wonderful colour choices. I like the coy expression/head tilt :)

What a sweet face. I am sure your wife was delighted. Well done. I like the contrast of the background against Fritz. Do you have a reference photo. I would enjoy seeing that.

Wes, I like your interpretation of the subject which does not look easy to me and I've been painting my whole life...mainly because his coloring is much the same. This is very painterly and is your style. Love it!

What an absolute sweetie of a dog. I like the way you have painted Fritz. I agree with Kay, it is an individualistic style and charming.

Thanks Kay. I appreciate the kind words.

Thanks Chammi. He has been a great dog for the family. Germany has given us many great things and the Weimaraner is certainly one of them! Now if I only had a German car to put him in...
