MY COMMENTS:
I am planning a series of winter wildlife paintings. This is the first. I want to convey the quiet stillness of winter with the wildlife being the focal point.

MY QUESTIONS FOR THE GROUP:
I think my background is too plain and too white. I'd like to suggest a background of trees, snow and branches without focus, very subtle. What to do?

Is the bird too flat?

Anything else?

try just spreading around some reds, greens, browns, etc. in the background and just suggest trees and branches. Darker towards the edges.

Awwww, I LOVE chickadees and this one is soooo cute! You've really captured it. No I don't think it's too flat, maybe the background is too flat...just needs a bit of very light shading or something to create more depth. I look forward to see what else you're going to paint for your series.

Thanks Yvonne. The background is flat isn't it? Hum..I think I could work on that. Thanks.

Well, the background is in the background. Just watch you don't make it too busy.

Good advice. I added just a touch more shading a couple background branches and it looked better.
