View Full Version : That flying sketchbook

As all good new year resolutions go.. they should start before the new year
It finally dawned to me that getting better at drawing/painting does not happen by hoarding art supplies so here I am getting back to being creative and using one of my "nicer" sketchbooks..
I wish to do a page a day in it and then compare beginning to end.. we shall see how long I can keep this up for

The sketchbook is small 11x16 cm kind of not flimsy paper, ok with light washes, not ok with neocolors ii for they bleed through O.O

For now I am using it with pastels (mainly pencils) and heavy use of fixative in hopes of one drawing not rubbing unto the next..

I am kind of obsessed with cherries right now..
I probably should have used black instead of hoping that khaki and red would make a dark enough dark..

This.. I don't know.. It is going to crawl out at night I think..

Both are reference fotos from paint my photo..

Thanks for looking!
Comments and Critique are more than welcome!

good plan :)

viridian and alizarin make wonderful dark burgundy reds - glowing and far better than black to mix

...and then I remembered that I still had some Christmas cards left to paint..
the weather was nice, the dog was bored so I painted outside today..
reference picture again from paint my photo..
neocolors ii on black acrylic ink.. I used them dry as I didn't like the way it reacted to water..

And today's picture.. still on the black ink background with neocolors ii..
I was lazy and I didn't want to think today so I just followed a youtube tutorial done with acrylic and tried my best to act as if neocolors ii were just that ^^
It is kind of fuzzy around the sunflower edges.. I just tried Sgraffito as I ended up with enough layers to do that but now it is kind of too edgy.. meh..

so you get the fuzzy picture

Great pieces. I love the sunflower with the Van Gogh sky...and the rooster. His feathers have such great texture.

Great pieces! Love those cherries, very dimensional. Gorgeous shine on that blue-black beetle, it looks very natural. Great rooster too, we have one and so I've been studying him for about a year. Every proportion and detail accurate and you got his attitude! Fun piece from the acrylic demo. Love that flower on black, Neocolors II are great on black. I love my set.
