MY COMMENTS:
Title: Downy feather
Year Created: 2014
Medium: Chinese inks (hand ground)
Brush: Small Mountain Horse
Surface: Red Star rice paper
Dimension: 6x6

This is done with traditional Chinese ink painting materials, but the subject is not particularly Chinese, so I present it here to see if the group has any thoughts on this sort of freehand brushwork

MY QUESTIONS FOR THE GROUP:
Is it a drawing or a painting?

I would consider it a drawing. It is an interesting piece in someways. Not in my area of working but there is something about it I like.

I would consider it a drawing.

Thank you for the comments ... "Downy Feather" shares many features of a drawing -- it is monochrome, it is in ink on paper, the scope of its subject is limited, it exploits line, and so on ... It might differ from drawing in that it appears sketch-like but it is not preparatory to anything beyond itself ...

There is such energy in this work that I am so attracted to. It is so beautifully simple. I would consider this a drawing.
