Convoy steams into port. After traveling from half a world away ships were still sunk when almost at their destination, despite Minesweepers.

Reminds me about that ammo ship that still lies in the Thames Estuary opposite Southend . Capable of wiping out nearby by towns if it were ever to be set off . The fat lady lurks on!

I know the one you mean, but I think the destruction thing is a bit OTT. Several munition ships exploded in convoy, and yes ships close by were damaged, but it certainly didn't destroy the convoys. Other munition ships have blown up in harbour, One in Canada, Italy and I think India. While causing wide spread damage, they certainly didn't wipe out the towns. Also this one is under water
I think the Japanese torpedoed an American one in Manus harbour, which was a crowded anchorage. I certainly wouldn't like to be sailing by if the Thames one did 'go off'.

Good points Jim - the bit about taking out the towns stemmed from what I was told during time in Southend many years ago plus something in more recent years on "Coast" or similar programmes .
I don't think Southend was overly threatened by it , more places on the south bank I believe.
Fingers crossed we'll never find out!:)

My interpretation from a different position.
