GENERAL INFORMATION:
Title: Freezing rain
Year Created:
Medium: Oil
Surface: Canvas
Dimension: 8x10
Allow digital alterations?: Yes!

MY COMMENTS:
Didn't like the original so thought I'd play around with making it look like an ice storm had just passed through. I went over the original mostly by scumbling. I don't think I accomplished it but I did lea<br> and think that next time I'll be able to nail it.

MY QUESTIONS FOR THE GROUP:
Any suggestions for capturing ice on trees appreciated.

Tom, I love your sense of adventure with painting. Never give it up!

Your treatment does give a really interesting effect. It does have some glow to it The distant trees do have the effect you are looking for (in my opinion). i believe some of that glazing would have to have hit the trunk as well as the posts in the field, and maybe remove the sheep. Think they may have a difficult time if everything was icy! Maybe they have studded hooves? I would also think there should be some strong reflections off the path in a couple places as the rain filled ruts. That ice should be a strong reflector.

I can't say I have ever seen someone tackle this idea, so it is new to me. Keep challenging yourself. You will definitely hit your own style really soon with the way you are diving in.

Trashed it. Starting over - I really want to learn how to paint ice after a freezing rain. So here is day one of the new version. I just blocked in the tree, so there are no twigs or ice on it yet. There will be a fence line or something on the right side as well. No aspect of this is finished, but hopefully you see where I'm going. I would greatly appreciate any tips you may have. Thanks. Oh, now it's 11x14.

This is all I have time for today, fussed with tree a bit and started fence. Next the fun starts - adding the doo-dads and sparkles.

Finished, changed edge of road, added barn and more highlights. Also added grasses in center of road.
