So this is my newly finished reduction linocut. My first reduction with fewer than 10 colors since my first ever 2 years ago.

The truck itself was discovered while on a vacation just over a year ago on the eastern edge of Zion National Park in Utah (right outside the park entrance on UT-9). There is a Trading Post and a campground at that entrance/exit to the park and when we pulled over to look around I found this old Dodge truck sitting there in complete disrepair. I took a photo of it and it's still one of my favorite pictures from that vacation.

I had wanted to turn it into a reduction lino, but there were so many colors in the actual scene that when I counted them up I was looking at about 18 layers. I didn't want to do that many so I turned it into a monochromatic image and used Photoshop to break it down a bit into various numbers of colors. I settled on 3 and it's taken way too long to get it completed, but hey....a guys gotta work.

A really neat result. The limited colour scheme works well.

Very well done. I drive that road several times a year and have never noticed the truck. Probably in a hurry to get into Zion.

It'll sit off to the right if you are going in from the east. It's right before the Trading Post/Campground.

I will slow down the next trip over there and look for it. It would make a nice etching. Thanks

Here's the reference photo and what the truck looks like in real life.

I love it! Your skill at producing reduction prints is great!

If it were my print, I think I'd do one thing differently: I'd add faint 4th color (maybe reddish grey) highlights to the truck, tree trunk, and maybe the landscape in the background. BUT then again, that would require a separate block.... thus rendering it not actually a reduction print. It's a great print either way!

Thanks for posting the photo.

I have been so busy that I haven't been able to get over to Zion this fall even once....anxious to see that truck in real life! My daughter was over there in early November and she was astounded at how many people were there. I am afraid it is only going to get worse. Years ago during the week we would almost have the park to ourselves in late October / November.

Huh, I hadn't even thought to do a reduction print in anything but wood...gonna have to give the lino a go.
