If it's a sheep it didn't work. I saw a sheep right off.

Nice painting.

The lower left corner is the top of the fence. I wasn't sure if I should put it in. I don't mind it, but maybe it detracts? Thank you for your comments!

Thank you so much for sharing this interesting painting. Whilst I found the subject immediately clear, the story of the painting was intriguing. Were you creating a narrative? If so, what was it?
The textures are lovely.

I was very drawn to the play of light on the textured wool and the contrast of the dark colors around the eye. The unusual angle you choose also add immensely to a piece that is of a subject that many would not initially be drawn to. I do find the fence area to look unfinished, and think taking it out completely might be something worth exploring, especially as it would continue the horizontal line across the bottom of the painting if it were omitted.

Thanks Dianne for your kind words. I suppose what I wanted to do is to be very near something alive and different from us, yet similar, if that makes any sense. The closeness and the eye show us the life, the tag in the ear shows us the future. I also wanted to paint this with some abstraction, shapes and value in mind. Thanks Melbeewin also for your feedback. I agree that having the horizontal along the bottom might add to this painting.

I saw a sheep but something odd happening around its left eye - is that a little animal???

the triangle "fence" shape on the lower left is at odds with it

the rest is very nice

Sorry Yvonne, I don't see what you mean by a little animal near the left eye, something I am missing. Everyone agrees, the fence detracts!

The photo wasn't clear, now I see it's the sheep's right eye.
