Playing with a downloaded sample of that paper treatment from the 19th century called "marbling." It was done with compressed ink and chemicals and turned a piece of paper into a piece of art. I thought it would make a great alien landscape with just a bit of manipulation. So these craft are exploring a frigid, distant planet with an atmosphere of thick nitrogen and veins of frozen carbon dioxide...prospecting its exotic mineral landscape.
Very creative. The paper adds movement to the craft.

Very nicely done! That paper would also work for an underwater scene.

I did some experiments with that technique (back in college) Lots of fun, as I recall.

Thank you for the comments. I can't figure out how to reply to them individually (is that the "quote" feature?) but I agree that this would make a great underwater background also. Playing with texture is a recent discovery for me and I feel like I am just getting started with the possibilities. It is also cool to find that someone has done this "marbling" right here in this group.
