Today I used a "trick" I remembered from watercolor painting. I had a small area that needed to be white and textured. I did not want to add another layer of pastel that would lay on top. I found I could scrape the pastel off with a razor blade getting back to the white paper. This was consistent with other areas of white in my painting where my intent was to make use of the white of the paper. . Just another tool for the arsenal.

Cool - I wonder if that would work with sanded papers though

You can also use a turpenoid to carefully remove the pastel without removing the grit of the paper. A small paint brush works well.
An Xacto Knife with variable blades will give you a better choice of angles, etc...when you just have to remove it that way. :thumbsup:
