A new project has been announced in the WetCanvas! project system!

Title: Oct/November 2003 Animal Art
Project Leader: animal
Relative Difficulty: Irrelevant
Type Restrictions: Any Type
Medium: Any Medium
Subject: Wildlife
Days open for signups: Always
Maximum participants allowed: Unlimited

Description:

Using the reference images provided, produce your work of art.

Do show your progress images and tell us what techniques you are using to complete your work. If you like, you can do both images!

You can work in watercolors, oils, pastel, acrylics, or perhaps you want to draw or sculpt. Any medium you choose will be good for us to discuss.

I've started a thread in the Wildlife Forum so we can talk about our progress and share information.

Remember, you are to only use the reference images below.

The object of this project is to work from the reference photographs and for all of us to see how we all accomplish this task and to share our knowledge.

Be sure to post progress pics in the special thread, or inside this project, and be sure to tell us what you are doing and why.

Have Fun!

Additional Information:

For more information on the project: Click here! (http://www.wetcanvas.com//Community/Projects/browse_details.php?proj_id=562)

Remember, in order to help keep the discussions on projects organized, you should post your questions, suggestions, and comments on submitted work here in this thread. By doing this, we allow other non-project efforts to not get "pushed down" by a swarm of project-related threads.

OK I'm signing up for the cat and here is my layout drawing. Sorry for the quality as my scanner is not working and my camera is not that good it keeps cutting off the left side or the top of the work. (Guess I am the one that is not good with the camera!!) This will be a graphite drawing but I am not sure yet of the paper or pencils I will use. Is there a time limit? Do we get to the end of Nov. to finish? PM

Thank you Cassiepeia, hlee and CrazyArtist2000 for your comments and encouragement! I had been worried, when I started posting wether people would think that embroidery didn't necessarily belong here, but the response so far is proving my fears to be unfounded.

Although I do admit to having a vice for commercial counted cross stitch, I spend most of my time working on original compositions and historical stitchery (mostly stuff pre 1600's)... this has been a fun way to stretch my fingers and my creativity.

I do paint, but again, that's an odd one, because although I dabble with watercolors, my main focus is on illuminated manuscripts... ::grins::.. BUT... I've had no desire to paint at all of late, finding it incredibly hard to sit at my desk for any period of time, much less long enough to actually work on something... so I'm embroidering. I'm tickled that there have been projects here to inspire me, and I'm tickled that people are enjoying seeing them!

Thanks again!

I don't think this is a fiasco... I like this kitty... he has life and humor in his eyes and he looks very fuzzy... okay so there are some problems and you are not necessarily happy with it.. but I'm guessing you learned something in those 'wasted' four hours?..

Cheers!

Hi Peggy,

Looks great so far -- some subtle, velvety toning of fur on the dog to the left. :) I would hurry you on, in looking forward to seeing the finished piece, but it's enough to sacrifice those precious weekends. :D

The eyes, I moved them a few times myself! The thing that I kept slipping into was that we have adult cats and I am so used to seeing them that I kept making this young cat look a lot older and had to keep making the head more narrow. The ears look different on older cats as well.

Just went to look at everyone's entries! I am impressed!

I so admire the cats:cat: done in color as I work in Graphite and would love to work in color but each time I try I get not so good results. It took me a long time to get passable in this medium that I am nervous when trying anything else. I had a hard time with the eyes on my cat. Just posted my second to the last WIP for this project. IF any one has a suggestion on how to improve it would love to hear it!

Hope everyone who signed up will post can't wait till the end of the month to see all the final entries. Glad to see so many people are trying this!

Thank-you Trin the Scribe, Crazyartist and Fort Meyer! I did darken the the curtain detail and the deeper parts of the shadows. I am going to do something about the nose. It seems a little off to me somehow but I am not sure just what yet. I have really enjoyed this project (my first!) I have done WDE twice and like that too but I liked the longer time limit here. I really like to see how everyones interpertation of the two pictures are so different! I also like to see the WIP's.

Well I'm new here and have just done my preliminary sketch and posted it in the projects section. I'm used to doing acrylics so I will continue using those for the cat picture. I'll try my hand at the Rotties if I can, but since this is the first time I've tried something like this on my own, it's a challenge.

I know you all have done this some time ago, so I don't know if I'm talking to myself or not, but I'll check in later.

Hi gang,

Well, just started this project. I really loved these Rotts when I found their pic in the reference library...and what do u know...there is already a project going on w/ them in it.

Here's my start...was watching a movie while I did this, so I almost forgot to post pics of my progress.

This is in ink w/ color pencils. Black is a really difficult color for me.
