E-J, this is so good! I love the bold strokes with the pastel and the colors are so potent yet completely natural. Really great work. My only nit...the lower left as I view the image looks like the water is going over a fall...is it? Is it the scanned image? I think it is because the strokes suddenly go downward instead of horizontal as the rest of the water. Anyway, this is a brilliant painting whether 10th plein aire or 100th!

Thank you. I'm a freak for bright colors. This is one of the first designs I did, I started adding more sky and clouds. I like it, but I do think it's a little too simple. There'll be more coming! :D

This is wonderfully bright and eye-catching. I like that it looks abstract on first glance and then your eye begins to wrap around the shapes and picks out the scene. I would not know how to begin on something like this. Beautiful!

Ai, how lucky you are to have such a wonderful place to paint. I love birds but can generally only view them through binoculars or telephoto lens of camera, if you exclude ducks and canadian geese. Your painting is charming. I like the simplicity of the scene and the loose brush strokes. Very nice work!

I'm curious why you call this a sketch and not a painting? It appears as a painting to me, very complete. The apples are beautifully detailed without using too much detail, if that makes any sense and the green cloth is a wonderful choice of background. This would look really nice matted and framed.

Like the dual portrait and rich colors. The only suggestion would be to add more warms to the male in this grouping. He is put back too far by the use of the cool colors in relation to the warmest of the girl. He really isn't that distant from her physically and a few touches of warm would accomplish that. Only in my opinion though so hope this doesn't upset you.

Pretty colors and interesting perspective. do you think maybe the water needs a bit more definition?

Hello and thanks for the input. I have never painted water before so I don't really know what to do next. Can you explain it a bit for me. Once I got it this far and it actually looked like water I was afraid to do any more to it.

Mostly, just look at your subject. Falling water will have highlights and shadows just like any other object. Your foam at the bottom is darker than the falling water. Maybe that's because it is in shadow? Otherwise, it should be very light where the light hits it and darker where it does not. The rushing water will have glints of light and darker spots too. Hope this helps. Water is pretty tricky stuff sometimes.

I just took a photo of my friends hydrangia arrangement and was about to start the project when I saw yours. What a lovely job you have done on the delicate colours. I am now inspired. I am working my way through each posting so that I can view every painting. I have been out of the painting mood until this month so I am trying to catch up. I must say that some of the work is awsome.
I'm so glad I joined this project. It will keep me coming back until I do my 52 paintings.

I like the way you did the background and the leaves, the only nit IMO is that the grapes stand alone, they seem pasted on. You might have merged the outlines with the background to unify them in the whole painting.
Hope you understand what I mean, I find it hard sometimes to find the right words to express what I want to say... :)

Thanks, E-J, for looking and commenting. I've been so busy lately have found it hard to get back into the swing of painting once a week - can't even sit down for the WDE on the weekends right now. Once the weather turns to Spring out here in Wisconsin I find, when home, I have too many chores waiting... SO - I'll probably never catch up with this project. Hi everyone:
This would be my second picture and boy am I way behind on this one a week thing...but trying to catch up.
This is a watercolour monoprint on arches hot pressed 140 lb paper. The photo is not the best so the colours appear washed out. I like this technique because of the texture it creates.

Very lovely work, everyone! I have really fallen behind, but still doing artwork...right now I am taking a figure drawing class/short pose. I work mostly from photos and felt like I needed that good old fashioned "real life" practice. I have been in several shows recently so getting things framed and delivered and, of course, attending the openings! That's the best part..
I'll be back to posting here in the next week or so.....keep up the great work...the thing I have noticed recently is some wonderful use of color by folks!

Betty,
I like the composition, and I can't think of anything that needs to be changed. Now, there are a couple of thing you might want to think about when doing landscapes.
First, where do you want your light to come from? You don't have many shadows, so it is hard to tell if the light is coming from the left or the right. My biggest problem in landscapes is getting the shadows and values so that the picture appears realistic. Deciding on the direction of the light is coming from and the time of day I'm depicting has helped me a lot.
Second, the evergreen trees you struggled with really aren't all that bad. However, evergreens can be deceptive. Just because they sort of look like triangles, I used to think the the branches sloped down until I looked very closely at them. In most cases the branches actually slope up or straight out. Unless, that is, they are covered with snow or are very long. Then the weight tends to pull them in a downward direction.
Third, a reflection of the mountain in the water might be appropriate since you seem to have depicted a relatively bright and calm day. Again, this is something I am still working on.

WELCOME to the PROJECT!!
I really like this, I think you have captured the ruggedness well
I love the texture and "chunkiness" of your paint application.

Entry #28.....I've discovered pastel pencils which I love. I put down my first layers with pastel pencils and then a little soft pastel to add some texture. This is on black paper about 9 x 9.5". 24 to go!!!
