Christmas is coming and so I'm doing a book for my grandson. I'll put some text to the illustrations and put it together in Publisher.

It's about him. He loves reading - he started learning the letters from children's tv (cbeebies, Numtums and Alphablocks) and loved numbers and letters when he was only 2. We obviously worked with him when he wanted and he's a really fluent little reader at only 3 and a half.

This is him as a baby looking at a board book

and he loves to draw, well scribble but his drawing is beginning to evolve. His mum was ahead of him in drawing. At this age she was really good.

and 'helping' in the garden

and building towers - his little chair on a footstool, then the blocks and then Little Green Mouse has to go on the top

and emptying his toy box - a real talent for creating a mess

and falling in and getting stuck ...

thanks :)

I need to do more but haven't had time. I'm off to a studio session with a model later ..... thinking of using charcoal as it's my comfort zone.

Great sketches of Charlie. I especially like the one of him bending over to empty his toy box and then the one of him inside the box.

Loving these, Vivien. I'll have to look up the Sketch Club app you mention. I'm having a lot of fun playing with digital art, too, and it is so easily made into a book. I'd love to see more of the outcome with text in place, just for future ideas. My granddaughter is 4 and I always try to give her handmade things as memorable gifts. Great little drawings you've done--very inspiring!

I will post more. They got a kitten recently and he and the kitten play beautifully so I want to add some of that. Needing photos ... But when the camera comes out, Charlie and Lola come to investigate and stop what they were doing! These were all done from quick snaps of activity. I can't sketch fast enough for the rapid movements from life. Wish I could.

Well done and so beautiful. You're a great illustrator. Have you considered captioning this and doing it as a picture book for his age group? It'd be awesome, I think, give little-little kids the story of someone like them learning to read.

It is going to be a book for him with writing about each. I can't see a publisher wanting it though. So many great illustrators out there. He loves to read and is really good though he's only 3.

I showed him the book The Patchwork Cat and he even read patchwork fluently, with just the slightest slur of hesitation between patch and work. All driven by him and started by cbeebies ...BBC children's TV. Obviously we read with him but the interest came from him.
