GENERAL INFORMATION:
Title: Sunny Crab
Year Created:
Medium: Colored Pencil
Surface: Paper
Dimension: Letter size
Allow digital alterations?: Yes!

MY COMMENTS:
Combination of colored pencils and pastel at the background.

The details on the crab and play with light were the more difficult part to do it...

MY QUESTIONS FOR THE GROUP:
I hope that you guys critique it to improve every day...

well, it looks like a crab
the eyes are very large which pushes it from reality to cartoon
the contrast within the crab could be stronger and the cast shadows wider.
if you used a reference it's quite useful for critique to post that reference.

This little crab looks a bit albino-ish so I'd use a lot more color on him/her to give him more definition.

I agree that some contrasts in value and color would enhance this piece.

Where is the cast shadow for the body? I notice you have cast shadows for the crabs legs which are long. This would indicate a lower position for the sun/light source on the right. I would expect to see a larger mass of shadow being cast from the crabs body.

When I originally looked at this piece, I thought the crab was standing on a flat area of sand with sky in the background. Now I see that you probably intended for the blue background area to be water, which makes more sense anyway ;).

I don't think the eyes are too large, these crabs just have big eyes naturally.

Great work on this, I would love to see more of your paintings in the future.
