20 x 24 inch Birch Wood Panel
Winsor & Newton Artists / Winton Paints
Underpainting done in Burnt Umber and Odorless Paint Thinner
Started applying skin tones of the angel using linseed oil and a mix of yellow ochre and burnt sienna.

I've been painting for a number of years but I recently started getting serious about it. I'm a trained comic book illustrator and I'm looking to move more into the fine arts. I wanted to learn how the old masters did it and I've been following them as closely as I can with this piece. This is my first real fine art piece and I welcome critique and advice. I think I'm having trouble with skin tones. I mean, I can always glaze in more of a certain color later on but I find those the hardest. I'm always looking to learn how to make my paintings better, so if anyone has any advice feel free to comment. Thanks everyone. :)

Beautiful work... I think you have the study done so well...

I'm a novice compared to you, but I think the skin color on the angels legs are a tad on the blue side which may be why you're having trouble there?

I can't wait to see where you go with this...

Here's the progress of the piece thus far. Thank you for the compliments Laurel, I'm really not too worried about the tones of colors just yet. I'm going to be doing multiple layers of glazes and a lot of things will be changing. Thanks!!
