Hi guys,
I usually post in plein air, but recently we went to Europe to get married in Germany where I'm from, and we traveled in Paris, Amsterdam and Southern Germany. I got to do quite a few sketches, I love architecture, and the tall spires and old architecture is just to die for.
Here are my faves from about 28 I did.

Atlanta Airport, waiting for connecting Flight.

Paris bistro, waiting for our aparment keys

Arc de Triomphe

One of many gorgeous bridges in Paris

Concert in Notre Dame cathedral

Train station Paris

from river ship: Cologne

Riverwalk in Cologne

Heidelberg city

Strasbourg, France

waiting in the courtyard of Castle Neuschwanstein

Most of these I did in about 10-20 minutes, either waiting for transportation, or while my new husband had a beer (plenty of times!). I did the sketch in waterproof ink, and then usually in the evening during down time I colored with gouache from memory.
It was so much fun, and I have more VIVID memories of the places we saw.

Comments welcome

These are wonderful, Ruth! Really charming sketches. You seem to have an excellent eye for composition. Is the color done with wcs, or pens, or? Anyway, that's done very well too.

In the city where I live, there's a regular feature in the local newspaper featuring an artist who does sketches of various local sites (http://www.seattletimes.com/author/gabriel-campanario-seattle-sketcher/). Your sketches are really every bit as good as his!

These are terrific! I especially like the street scenes and the concert at Notre Dame Cathedral. And the Atlanta airport looks very familiar...thanks for sharing!

Thank you all on the congrats. And the comments. It's really worth it taking a small sketch book everywhere... I had 2 waterproof ink pens (from Faber Castell). One a very thin marker, and the other more like a liner, so I could do the more calligraphic fatter lines. Each one had its charm. I added the color with GOUACHE later in the evening. I used the gouache like watercolor, very thin, instead of heavy-opaque. It was so much fun, and after a couple of days I thought my days were wasted if I didn't produce at least a tiny sketch. Very fulfilling, and like you all remark, a VERY WONDERFUL memory.

Really smashing sketches, just as I would but strangely on your honeymoon you had all that time! The book accompanies me everywhere too
