This is not quite finished, it started out as a doodle, but I got carried away!

I wanted to see if I could capture the expression and the hair on my daughter Robyn. This is what I've got:http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/04-Jul-2001/FunnyFace4.jpg

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is the first time I've filled in my background, it really made her hair stand out! I usually like my edges softer on my shading, but for some reason on this one I liked it like this....

I need to finish the lower part of this one. I was just going to fade it out a bit lower that it is now.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

That's quite a doodle! Tell me you didn't work from life, and make her hold that expression for long:p .

I think you've done a great job. It is such a typical "kid" expression, and you really captured it. Made me laugh when I saw it....both remembering my own son doing such things, and myself when I was much, much younger.

I particularly like the softness of the background against the hair.

Great stuff!

This is a WONDERFUL example of how backgrounds can REALLY work wonders in a portrait! If you could, could you please post this over in "drawing and sketching" too? I know a lot of other graphite artists visit that thread that would love to see this!

Hi!

dupliKate - aww..... making her hold this one would have been impossible! Maybe next time :p

Thanks wendee! :)

journey341, thanks & I will see if I can post it later over in drawing and sketching. I started to post it there, but posted it here because it is a "portrait". Is it correct to post in more than one place if it is appropriate? Like in this case? just wondering.

Thanks,
