View Full Version : 'Desperate Measures'

This is my first completed painting after packing up my easel and paint box to move back to the country. It depicts a desperate scene where a Royal Navy trawler is desperately trying to ram a German U-boat in the North sea during the early years of WW1. The U-boat is likewise trying desperately to dive to safety after being caught spying on a convoy.

Fine painting, well handled rust.

I like the waves a lot, however i don't get the U boat element at all, as i only have a periscope to work on. It would have been nicer to see some of the conning tower.

Thanks everyone. I know all about rust on ships vegaskip, when I was an OS I spent a lot of time chipping this stuff! The reason for no conning tower is at first it was to be put in, but this painting was to be entered in this years Maritime art prize. Time was running out so I omitted it. In the end my application was rejected anyway!
