This is the Main River. We cycled 250 kilometres through lovely countryside and pretty villages. Unfortunately having to meet our little ship or rather barge each day gave me little time for sketching but here are the ones I managed to do.

My first sketch was of the lovely church steeples of the town from which we started our journey.

The next sketch was a rather odd one for me. It was raining most of the day and I managed to find shelter under a large canopied tree. My view was of this industrial site but I thought the shapes were rather challenging. I had exactly quarter of an hour to finish this sketch and added a few watercolour washes once I returned to the ship.

This wonderful, higgledy piggledy Rathaus (Town Hall) built centuries ago was just asking to be sketched. I thoroughly enjoyed sitting in a cafè , enjoying a cappuccino and sketching this delightful building.

My last sketch is a bit of a montage. I had first sketched the captain and then decided to add the boat. I think it worked . Could have been worse!

Hope you have enjoyed sharing a little of my journey with me.

Wonderful travel sketches Chammi. I drove through that area some 25 years ago, sadly before I began to paint. They were constructing the rine - Maine canal at the time.

Thanks Doug. What a pity you weren't painting. It is treasury of lovely buildings and landscapes. Wish I had had more time.

Chammi - Wonderful sketches from your trip! I especially like the one of the captain and the boat. It is hard to cycle and get the time to sketch too. Bravo!
