View Full Version : DIY Leather Art Journals - 2 Sizes (cross-posted)

Hi Everyone!

I am cross-posting some (only slightly smaller!) pics of my DIY "fauxdorie" art journal from a thread in the Watercolor forum that I thought might be of interest to some of you.

The large one with the wc pocket folder is about A5 size, and the little one with the DIY Peerless palette is a Field Notes size (5.5"x3.5") I made for my DIL. The brush clips double as page-holders when painting outdoors.

I included the link to the whole post in case you want to read it or for resource links, etc.

I would love to hear your comments!!

That's interesting. Is the Peerless Palette those two pages with swatches and very dark patches above them, so it's laid on very thick and you can pull color off? That's clever. Nice little water bottle too and the water brushes help give scale on both projects. Very cool leather journals! I also like the elastic band and bulldog clip holders for water brushes.

LOL! I bought that particular water-brush just for that little bottle, so my son & DiL would have a way to carry water for their paints in their backpacks. They documented their bp trip across the West Indies, Mexico, Guatemala, France & Spain with the TNs I made them! So much fun! (and me at home drooling..)

The Peerles paints are sold as pure pigments on little 2"x2" canvas cards that I cut 1"x 1/2" strips from & glued to watercolor paper. And yes, you just need a drop to lift off tons of color. Below them is a color swatch because the card doesn't always look like the color it really is.

What a neat little setup!!

I have a Winsor & Newton travel brush set that I love dearly. It has sable brushes in it.

What a lovely idea and a great project. My husband did leather work years ago as a hobby. He still has some equipment and leather offcuts. He says he intends giving this a go in winter. Yippee. Thank you so much for sharing.

The brush/pen holder with a binder clip is very clever. I may copy it. :D
