After a long detour into the 3D world of Blender creating a simple scale mock up of HMS Hermes flight deck circa 1963 and adding Scimitars, Sea Vixens , Gannet AEW3s and Buccaneer S1 and S2 models to scale I've finally got round to the composition stage for a conventional acrylic on canvas painting.
The possibilities thes four model types open up is enormous - just circling the virtual camera around a Scimitar launch scene produced some 16 possibilities . I hope to have a lot of fun and some reward for the 3D slog .
Just to give you an idea of what it looks like:
A word of caution to Len and Jim - don't worry about the things that are wrong I'll be coming to you when I get down to one specific painting don't you worry . ( Never let a crab loose on a flight deck!)

I know the Buccaneers didn't arrive till later in the Scimitar's time but I'm pleased to have them handy for other ideas .

I favour the second one down. Not sure, but I think that when Scimiters operated with Buccaneers, it was in the Tanker roll, so might suggest a Fueling pod. Just something to keep in mind. Anyway stop watching the 'Gowff' and get on with it

Well spotted Jim - the second one down is the one I'm going for first . You are right about the Scimitar / Buccaneer timing . As I say there are a multitude of options opened up with this mix of aircraft . So far I've resisted the temptation to make a Whirlwind plane guard as well but maybe come the winter? Oh - and I could add a COD Gannet to the complement!
Yep - I managed to make it back to my art place and actually do some pencil work this avo so weaning myself off this machine steadily.

On the Vic. We had two S51 Dragonflys for a while, the Whirlwinds were all grounded for some reason.

2nd one down but from a lower perspective! The Tower dominates the scimitar ... imho...

Thanks Faminz - I'm sticking with the original at the moment . I quite like it . I have another version from lower and closer which cuts out the tower but for whatever reason , I like this one more .

2nd one down for me as well...straiten up the deck though, you wouldn't have the scimitar tensioned like that while still turning into wind (listing to STB) in a hard turn

The one with the Gannet looks good as well...the Sea vixen on the cat & the one behind it waiting to by taxied forwards (both) look as though they have a puncture on the port wheel...they look a little lop sided

Thanks Len - like I say , please ignore the obvious errors for now . These are fairly quick fixes to get some ideas . All will be well in the end ( with a bit of help from you and Jim I hope). It's easy enough to roll /pitch the aircraft in any axis - so as long as I get the deck and camera level I'll be able to correct any lopsided elements .

I wondered what you'd been up to, Neil. You have quite the scene going there.

Cheers Gray - finally getting round to taking up paint and canvas again!
