Found some pastel pencils but not sure they are right. But... have a set ordered that should be here next week!

Seems like after I get a undercoat or try to lay on another color to blend the chalk or pencil just slides.. so I must have the wrong stuff. One set of sticks is hard and the other is soft. The soft stick seems to deposit better. The hard stuff only works on first layer.

The pencils seem to be way too waxy and putting on several layers is out of the question.

Anyway, here's Number Three.. Again, no reference.

Bill, if you turn the paper over there is probably a smoother side that you may enjoy working on. Yes, if the hard ones are NuPastel, they can be used alone, layered, or as a base for your softer pastels. Be sure to check that your pencils are pastel pencils. You mentioned waxy, which may indicate they are colored pencils, not pastel pencils.
You are doing well without a reference. However, feel free to take advantage of the RIL (Reference Image Library). You will find it under the "Content Areas" heading on the WC home page. http://www.wetcanvas.com/RefLib/

Another lovelt landscape Bill! I really like the warm colours you put into your pieces :) ... I agree with Karen, flip over the paper and use the less textured side.
Strange with your pencils, I hope you have more joy when your new ones arrive :) ... regardless ... I am a fan of your work :)
