MY COMMENTS:
This is my latest attempt at loosening up my brushwork. I used more pallett knife in this painting, which I'm still getting used to.

MY QUESTIONS FOR THE GROUP:
Any feedback on how to improve this would be greatly appreciated!

Two things:

1. mix a small amount of dark grey and touch it across the nose - that monotone black is completely at odds with the rest of the picture, and therefore acts as a massive distraction.
2. I would very slightly darken the line of the horizon where the field meets the woods. Not entirely across the line of that horizon but just in the area in and area the head of the animal.

The light seems to only hit one or two spots on the head. The deer seems to be out in the open so a little more high light on the right side.

A very good painting needs a bit of shine on the nose.
I like it

Nice concept, I find myself trying to distinguish between the natural color and the shadow on the face. Not sure how to fix that
