After showing each year for 5 years at the National Society of Painters in Casein and Acrylic at the Salmagundi Gallery in New York City, my painting won an award; The Eric Gurney Award. Here is the painting and I think you've seen it. Cheers, Derek

I'm surprised it took 5 years to win an award. Yes, I remember that painting. Your attention to detail and ability to illustrate it amazes me. But then you were an illustrator, right? Love your paintings!

Derek, congratulations! What a beautiful painting!
I went to Salmagundi last Saturday and Sunday, both days could not get in. I hope to see the show in person, maybe next week at some point. This weekend it will not be possible.
They were hanging on Saturday, and judging on Sunday. Well, the judging part turned out excellently, I think :) An honor well-deserved.
Melissa: Thanks very much.
Hi Cathy: I hope you get to go, and thank you.

Derek, I saw the show today at Salmagundi (they are closed tomorrow, July 4, but were open today.) Congratulations once again!
I must say, there is nothing like seeing these paintings in person, I wish every acrylics painter on WC could see the show. It certainly inspired me to do better than I have been doing lately. The show informs that there is NO reason for our acrylic paintings to be less that we would like. It's back to the drawing board for me, (or easel!) and I will be more studious and less careless. The problems and solutions are universal, as it happens, no matter what the medium. There are elements in good painting and image-making that present themselves among the artists who are represented in the show. You painters in this show set a wonderful example! You guys do it, and so I will try harder!
I have gone to the show each year; this year there seems to be an extremely high level of quality and expertise, across the entire breadth of the show. I haven't felt that way about the show in past years, as I do this year. What a pleasure to see, and learn!
Thank you all so much. Support from my WC buddies is so important.
Cathy: Wow....so glad you got to see the show. Acrylics RULE! Casein ain't too bad either. Thanks Cathy.
