View Full Version : Portland Lobster Harbor WIP

I'm nearly done this painting of a small lobster boat harbor in Portland Maine.

However, I feel like there needs to be more junk, i.e. lobster traps, buoys etc.

Anyway, I figured I'd check for advice here in WC.

Thanks in advance

I agree.. I do think it looks a little sterile.. from my experience of areas like this here in the uk.. there are usually piles of Lobster and crab traps…

Something of interest like coils of rope, seagull/s, etc on the piles at the front, or a small dinghy moored to one of them to suggest a boat has been taken out earlier maybe?
Just a thought, but the painting is coming along nicely for all that. Well done anyway,
Cheers, Ian Wildey.

It's a nice painting. The red buildings and boat add a lot of energy. The reflection of the pier on the left should be going to the viewer's right, though, I think, despite leaning left.

This will be a nice painting. Very colorful. Good job on the clouds. You may want to strengthen the shadows under eaves, posts, etc. Nice work.

I agree with those who agree with you. Nicely done painting but devoid of the details that would make it so much better than nice.

Jim: outstanding.
Give your whites a little color. I can see more value contrast coming also.

It is a super painting and I like the additions but I would like to see the odd figure. Unless it were a night painting, there would definitely be more life around those moorings.
