View Full Version : sketches for book for grandson for third birthday

06-18-2015, 01:01 PM

I decided to do a book for my grandson's 3rd birthday. He's mad on numbers and reading. he can read quite a bit already - I think it first started with childrens tv and then the ipad and of course we helped him as he was so interested.

I thought I'd do a book about him and what he does and make it easily readable.

So - first one is him building a tower of blocks on top of a child's desk chair balanced on top of a pouffe - and then everything tumbling :)

and I used it on the cover

Next was him 'helping' in the garden

and numbers

I may re-do this one with hand drawn things around

I'm using Publisher to combine the drawings and text and the sketches are done on the ipad

He recognised himself instantly when I showed him that first drawing which has to be good!

It's funny, he loves to scribble, name the colours and can read the names of the colours without help .... But though he can trace fairly accurately around shapes he just won't draw them himself. At that age his mum drew well (my daughter). Though she didn't read until a bit older. He's so blasť when he reads words with this little 'so easy' cheeky look sometimes! He's 3 next week.

I've decided to draw the illustrations for the counting page as I don't like the hard ones I did in Publisher. Still to be done

I've added to the text on some pages and done some new ones

onwards ..............

These are so cool - good for you to do this for Charlie. When I first started having grandkids - i started blogs for them - now I'm up to nine kids - first blog was started back in 2006. I always wanted to do sketches of them but only did a few here and there. I love that u are doing this!

Thank you all :)

I need to get on with it but have been tied up with other stuff. Have to get some pastels done and framed for an exhibition but will get back to this.

Welcome Chammi :). Do post your work in this forum as well?

Wonderful idea! He will treasure this book all his life and especially will enjoy it when he is older.

Would you mind if I was going to "grab" your idea for my own litlle grandson? :D
