This method is a very simple way of keeping your signature handy and ready to use. Most methods tell you to create a paintbrush of your signature, but you still have to play with the size to get it right. When using a custom shape, all you do is select your signature, click and drag. It doesn’t matter what size your image is, you can drag it to fit. Once you have set this up, you never have to do it again. Since I don’t use the shape tool that often, most of the time it’s there ready for me and I just click on the tool and drag. Anyway, just thought you would find this useful.

ok...I must be doing something wrong? The work path that it creates from my selected text doesn't follow the contours of the selected text very well, so the resulting signature from the work path looks messy and not much like the original text. Any ideas??

When I get to "define custom shape" it's greyed out and I can't select it. Any idea whazzup?

Cathy:
Not sure what's happening on your part, but try selecting the area around your signature and then telling it to invert the selection. This will select the outer edge of your signature and will work just as fine as the way I suggest in the tutorial. Then you create your working path.

I have no idea about your problem. If you could give me a little more information, I might be able to help.

Hi Steve,
I figured it out, almost right away, but I've been having a problem with aol. It keeps freezing on me. Then I have to totally shut down my system and wait for it to start again. Then it freezes on me again. Contacted them about it, but what they suggested didn't work--it was "obviously" a problem with MY system--certainly NOT with aol. Yeah right! Problem with that is it was happening on both my old laptop and my new super power desktop, which are NOT connected! The "tech" (I use the term loosely) said there was probably a DIFFERENT problem with the desktop!!!!! Yeah, right, again! I'm thinking this would be a good time to get rid of aol and try someone new. Anyone got any suggestions?
Anyway, I did manage to work out the signature finally. Thx, Steve.

Make the text HUGE.... it will render a finer outline for the custom shape to use.
