Hello. I am new to this forum. I paint with acrylics like you other fine folks. I am struggling a bit with uploading an image here so I will try this small image for the moment. I can't play any instruments and I was much happier painting this thing than trying to play it.

Very nice! I like the composition, gives it a sense of movement.

Yep, I think they are very uptight with their uploading requirements, which are what, like 800 x 800 pix and a meg max?

Sometimes you've got to resize it a bit if you're using a high megapixels or resolution camera (had this issue too.)
Good stuff, welcome and hope to see more of you!

That "thing" is a fiddle, something no one would ever mistake for a violin or VSO (Violin Shaped Object).
The top three strings of a fiddle are wound with wire giving them the appearance of very skinny springs. Perhaps you could paint in 376,000 lines on each of the top three strings to portray that or try something more realistic to somehow suggesting it. Good job on making them all different diameters, something a lot of people miss.
You've suggested the curve of the top very nicely, too.
Do you have a photo of the instrument or the reference photo?

I checked out your blog. Pretty cool. How long have you been painting?
On uploads: 800x800 pixels is a fair size. You can change the amount of detail in your uploads by changing the number of pixels per inch (PPI). More PPI = more detail and larger file. Most of mine are 775 pixels on the largest dimension and saved at 300 PPI.

Welcome to the forum! Nice looking work here, good colour/blending.
If you look at the stickies, top of the forum page, che k the "Welcome ...... (rules)... Starting tips and posting guide" youll see info about uploading images. We suggest a resolution of 100ppi as this will give a bit less information for anyone misappropriating your image. Still gives a good representation of the work and keeps the file a good size.

Nice work. I also think it's easier to paint an instrument than to play it.
